The American Academy of Dermatology is giving back to firefighters.
They group is providing free skin care screenings for the first responders. Firefighters have a 21 percent greater risk of melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer.
“As a retired firefighter, I was aware of the risk of skin cancer,” said David Schiderer. “So, I started coming to this office to get checked on a regular basis. Several years ago, we did find some skin cancer and a couple of different spots that were treated.
